Provided abstract: This paper proposes that the clausal functional lexical items v, T and C can enter the clause in the different ways in (1) by Set and Pair Merge: (1) a. [CP C [TP T [vP v . . . ]]] the analytical (e.g. English) type b. [CP C [P . . . ]] the mixed (e.g. German) type c. [P . . . ] the synthetic/agglutinative (e.g. Japanese) type The proposal helps making sense of a number of the languages’ properties and gives rise to parameter-induced “clustering” effects. --------------------------------------------- ## Additional Notes Links: - https://sites.google.com/view/wccfl2021/ This presentation is part of the 2021 West Coast Conference on Formal Linguistics collection, which is available here: https://doi.org/10.25422/azu.data.c.5325401
