Oral Presentation for "Indivisible portmanteaux and the timing of ellipsis"

presentation
posted on 2021-05-18, 23:21 authored by Neil Banerjee
This talk was presented on 2021 April 8 - 11 at the 39th meeting of the West Coast Conference on Formal Linguistics.

Provided abstract:
Ellipsis of the complement of negation in Hungarian is blocked when a portmanteau negative copula spans across the ellipsis boundary. The portmanteau is shown to be formed post-syntactically, meaning that the contents of ellipsis sites must be post-syntactically accessible, contra recent proposals that ellipsis is purely a syntactic or transfer operation.
