Poster Presentation for "Using Phasal Syntax to Make Generalizations in Manchu Vowel Harmony"
posterposted on 18.05.2021, 16:16 authored by Jack Isaac Rabinovitch, Baoqing Qian
This poster provides an analysis of Manchu vowel harmony and argues that mismatch in vowel harmony for imperfective and perfective heads is caused by a phasal imperfective head, which requires that its complement, the spell-out domain, be sent to PF before more material can attach to the stem. We use this analysis to create a simplified set of generalizations for pedagogical purposes, hoping to streamline the internalization process of acquiring vowel harmony for heritage learners.
This poster was presented on 2021 April 8 - 11 at the 39th meeting of the West Coast Conference on Formal Linguistics.
