Poster Presentation for "Unexpected adjectival passives"

poster
posted on 2021-05-17, 23:00 authored by Elisabeth Gibert-Sotelo, Rafael Marín
This poster was presented on 2021 April 8 - 11 at the 39th meeting of the West Coast Conference on Formal Linguistics.

Provided abstract:
It is the received view that only verbs including a stative component can be part of adjectival passives. However, we have identified a group of Spanish activity verbs (those of the type of perseguir ‘chase’) which, despite being atelic and fully dynamic, are found in adjectival passives involving a progressive reading; cf. Pedro está perseguido ‘Pedro is (being) chased’. We provide a formal account for the availability of these constructions that also explains their progressive denotation.
