<p dir="ltr">Orphan applicants are medical students applying for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PRS) residencies from institutions that lack an affiliated PRS residency program. The lack of home residency programs presents significant disadvantages in research opportunities, mentorship, and networking.</p><p dir="ltr">Challenges include the following:</p><p dir="ltr">1. Limited research opportunities</p><p dir="ltr">2. Lack of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Exposure</p><p dir="ltr">3. Lack of Mentorship</p><p dir="ltr">4. Lower likelihood to match PRS</p><p dir="ltr">This project, which has now been published as a non-profit book to raise money for applicants from underserved backgrounds in partnership with the Garnes Society, seeks to establish the challenges present and offer avenues for orphan applicants to learn more about the field of PRS and take important steps to becoming a successful applicant for residency and matching into PRS in the future.</p><br><hr><i>For inquiries regarding the contents of this dataset, please contact the Corresponding Author listed in the README.txt file.
